Reading Circle Guide
ALTA Reading Circles offer current and past students an opportunity for one-on-one or small group reading practice using ALTA library books or materials of their choice.

The ALTA Reading Circle is once a week for one and a half hours and caters to students’ individual reading needs.
It gives students the chance to:
Build upon the reading skills
taught in the ALTA class
Promote
reading fluency
Develop
comprehension strategies
Instill a lifelong
reading habit
Reading Circle Guides:
Commit to guide a group of students one and a half hours per week at a scheduled time and place
Guides must attend one full day (9am-4pm) of training at the ALTA Belmont Training Centre on 18th January 2025
Must be willing to commit to volunteering as a Reading Guide from January 2025 to at least July 2025
Have a passion for reading and nurturing reading development in others
Materials
ALTA sources books for this programme which tutors borrow to use with students. In addition, tutors collect and bring magazines, newspapers, brochures and leaflets, forms, appropriate word games with them to the Reading Circle.
Students may bring their own reading material which they want help to read, e.g. Highway Code if they are doing their driving test regulations.
